Climbing in Laos The climbing situation in Laos remains a mixed bag. Whilst clearly good quality limestone, free access to crags is still an an issue. In the two years that passed since I first wrote this page I have received a number of reports back from climbers who have succeeded in climbing in Luang Prabang and detailed information about a commercial outfit who have developed Vang Vieng near Vientiane. I have split the information into some separate pages. Report of my own experiences in Luang Prabang - April 2000 Vang Vieng - Latest Information - May 2002 Nathan Wales' experiences in Lunag Prabang - October 2001 Wee and Elke's experiences in Lunag Prabang - October 2001 Dan Morris' photos from the original route setting in 1999.
As it stands now and the Future If you have followed the links above you will know that the situation continues to be dominated by bureaucracy. I will provide any updates as they arrive. As for the Laos government - @#$%^&*()_@$ Any ideas on what can de done regarding access do not hesitate to let me know simonfoley at simonfoley.com (the at is an @ symbol but I am trying to avoid spiders crawling through the web and sending me more junk mail. I have all the herbal viagra, opportunities to buy African gems and second mortgages I need, thanks).
